We listen.
Tell us how you will use the piece, what it needs to hold and what you want it to feel like. We turn that conversation into a clear direction.
We make leather pieces to become part of your life: useful, personal and more interesting with wear. Our purpose is to keep the craft alive by making things that matter to the people who use them.
A belt should fit the person wearing it. A bag should work for the life it carries. A commissioned piece should begin with what you need.
We bring you into the choices: the leather, the shape, the stitching and the finishing details. That conversation is where our work begins.
The person behind the name
Our story begins with Keith-John Caruana, our founder and a retired Armed Forces captain. A leather bag from his grandfather showed him how an everyday object could carry years of memories.
While serving in Tuscany, an encounter with a leatherworker in Florence deepened that connection. Leather offered a way to bring his interest in art into objects with a purpose.
Founded in 2021, Captain’s Cut grew from that personal pursuit into the work we share with you today.
Full-grain. Vegetable-tanned.
For our own leatherwork, we choose full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Tuscany. Its natural character stays visible, and its surface develops a patina through use.
Thickness, flexibility and finish all change how a piece feels and works. We help you choose with the finished piece in mind, rather than treating every hide as interchangeable.
Tell us how you will use the piece, what it needs to hold and what you want it to feel like. We turn that conversation into a clear direction.
We work through the leather, proportions, colour and hardware, then cut and assemble the pieces around the design.
Stitching, edges and finishing take care. We make room for that work because the details are what you will live with.
