Elegance on four legs
It all started when as a dog dad myself I was noticing Jiro, my lovely Shiba Inu clearly and repeatedly going over and resting on a sheep skin I had bought from Gozo. I had over 5 different synthetic fur rugs in the house but he would never stay on any of them. His clear preference for the natural hide got me thinking. I researched this topic well and understood why natural fabrics are always a great choice for pet products. I soon got busy working on Jiro's first veg-tan leather collar and then a harness. Did you know that full grain leather also has antibacterial properties and breathes? Surely canvas and all the plastic or petroleum derivative products do not breathe and end up trapping heat and sweat.
Once I dived deep in the subject and researched common dog mobility issues, pressure points and experience practicality of gear as a dog owner, I could then move on to the 'nice to have' and shifted my attention to elegance and style.
I was commissioned to work on a great bespoke harness for Chum, one of the funniest and cutest fur-ball I had the pleasure of meeting. The direction was clear, work on a dark green harness that is fast release, using high quality hand stitched velcro, a secure pull system and yes it also features a matching french elegant bowtie on the leash and the harness too.
Of course the laser engraved name had to take centre stage and material chosen was lovely dark green veg tan and hand tanned saddle leather straps.
The elegant bowtie was a simple touch of elegance which cannot be found on any commercially available models.
Last but not least is the commissioner of this lovely project, Chum's mum as the prepares Chum for his Sunday's expeditionary stroll in his classy Captain's Cut harness.
